If you’re planning a home renovation, you may need to find new flooring to replace old, worn-out carpet or vinyl. You have various options, but we think you should consider vinyl flooring. It is one of the most popular choices for homeowners because of its many perks. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of vinyl flooring so you can decide whether or not it is for you.

What is vinyl flooring?

Vinyl is a type of flooring most commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms. It comes in two different types, sheet or tile. Both types are waterproof and hold up well, but many prefer vinyl tiles because of their aesthetic appeal. Sheet flooring is laid down in sheets 6-12ft wide.

Pros:

Vinyl flooring has many advantages that go beyond its aesthetic appeal. For example, vinyl flooring is highly water-resistant. Because of this feature, many homeowners tend to put it in areas where water is prevalent, even if the rest of the house has different flooring.

Another feature that puts vinyl flooring ahead of the competition is its price. Vinyl is typically less expensive than other types of flooring, like carpet or hardwood, while still being just as durable.

All in all, vinyl flooring is an excellent choice if you’re looking for flooring that provides a comfortable foot feel, water and stain resistance, and an affordable price.

Cons:

Despite all of the advantages of vinyl flooring, there are a few drawbacks to consider. Vinyl flooring is not designed for supporting heavy loads and is prone to cracking when put under too much pressure. Because of this, you will have to be mindful of where you are installing it.

Vinyl flooring is not recommended for outdoor use either. The vinyl material fades when exposed to sunlight for a long time. On top of this, extreme temperatures can warp the floor and cause it to deteriorate.
